My plan of action

Leigh's been cycling for ages now and is an absolute fanatic.  This will be his first century ride too, but he pretty much knows everything there is to know and has read every article, blog, review there is to read. So, my plan is this - DO EXACTLY WHAT HE TELLS ME TO DO.  Whether I want to or not, whether it makes my weep and moan, I will do what Leigh tells me to do, exactly how he tells me to do it and exactly when he tells me to do it.  This is how I know I'll be able to cycle 100 miles in 88 days time - Leigh has got my back.

My motivations

1)  Because I want to get fit and healthy
2)  Because I want to lose weight, lot's of it
3)  Because I want to stop being flaky
4)  Because it will make my husband completely happy
4)  Because some people said I wont be able to

Up to now

Since Christmas I've been going to the gym 2-3 times a week and have discovered that I actually love to exercise! Before that I did absolutely nothing in the way of keeping fit and healthy, really nothing.  When I started I couldn't stand up after 2 minutes on the cross trainer - I literally did the Bridget Jones Jelly Legs in my induction session.  I made it my mission to overcome the evil machine and last week I managed a 35 minute hardcore interval session on it and even managed to walk to the water fountain afterwards. Green and purple I may have been but oh how very proud I was!

In terms of cycling experience, last summer I went out with Leigh three times and actually, although I only went out to keep my boy happy, I really enjoyed it.  I just had no desire what so ever to do it through the winter so haven't done any cycling since last August.  So I feel that starting from 0 is not too much of an exaggeration.

Have I gone completely mad?

On May 27th I will be riding, along with my (eat, sleep, breathe cycling) husband Leigh, the Norwich 100 - a 100 mile organised bike ride, a 'Sportive' for those in the know.

Apparently this is the equivalent of deciding to run the London marathon at Christmas when you can't even run for a bus so I know I've got my work cut out over the next 88 days!

I plan to bare all on this blog, with body measurements, training, calories etc. It's mostly so that I can look back over it as a record of my achievement, but I hope that by making it public I will a) be shamed into sticking to my training plan b) get some much needed encouragement and c) be able to raise some money for Farleigh Hospice, whose amazing staff cared for my Grandad and showed such compassion to my family at the end of last year.

I might be able to blog every day but I will record every day and get it onto here as soon as possible.

Wish me luck!
